Working a night shift as a security guard isn't as bad as some people would think it is. For some people, they would love to work at night due to the type of person they are or if they just can't ever sleep at night. Being scared of the dark is also not an issue for some of these people as they know nothing is there and aren't easily spooked.

This is the case for Lynel Silvers. Lynel is a robust Eastern Timber Wolf with a some Doberman mixed in giving him a very strong and stiff body, but the color scheme that makes people question just what is he. While most people would be scared of working night shifts due to potential crooks, things hidden in the dark, or even other creepy things, the Timber Wolf simply brushed those thoughts off as he didn't care to much for them. He has heard stories of weird activity going on during the night but he also heard way more stories of others working at night and having nothing happen to them. So to him, this was just another day at work.

The main reason Lynel decided to work at night was because of the type of canine he was. Anyone who knew of him could say that he hardly say anything at times. A party could be going on and he would be the only one not smiling or saying anything at all. Almost no one knew as to why this was the case but they just learned to accept that this was who he was. Because he is silent he actually has an even easier time picking out unordinary sounds coming from any directions. This is very useful as whenever a thief or a crook tries to break in anywhere he'll be able to pinpoint just where they are at.

Since he is a security guard he does need some type of way to protect himself. While it isn't much, he keeps a pistol in hand as he never really knows when things will get to dangerous. He's also very confident that if a target gets to close to him that he'll be able to handle them on his own thanks to how strong he is. While he isn't the strongest guy around, he feels he could outlast anyone stronger than him as most crooks aren't exactly the smartest or strongest of pedestrians.

"Hey Lynel? You heard the news from the boss? Apparently some officers from the Griffon City rural section are coming over to do a little investigation. Apparently some crook from their area escaped into the city and rumors say that whoever it is is likely here. You think he's here?" Talking to the robust canine was his lookout partner Steven, a black and white male Husky in his mid 20's that seemed to be a bit more of a cheery guy compared to his partner.

A simple shoulder shrug came from Lynel as he wasn't entirely to sure himself. But if the police were coming then that meant things could possibly get a little dangerous as they wouldn't stop by just to say hi. "Maybe. Who knows?"

Steven simply chuckled as that sounded like Lynel. "Honestly I thought the shoulder shrug was all I would get out of you. I'll keep in touch with you for whenever these officers arrive." The husky patted Lynel on the back before walking off to go back to his post. It wasn't that Lynel didn't like to talk. He had his reasons for being silent and no one really bothered to ask why so he just remained a silent wolf.

Standing in his position, the Timber Wolf hardly moved a muscle as he was very focused and serious about any potential threat coming his way. He knew full well how dangerous his job could be and if anyone was hurt then it would be his fault for not giving out any proper warnings or stopping the guy himself. Sure, maybe he was placing to much responsibility on himself but in a way, this was how he kept himself from slacking off.

While tension was starting to build up about the rural crook, the officers were quickly making their way over to the scene. In a CANA Police truck were the female members of the team, Dora Klendathu and Giselle Moreyra. These two officers were assigned to investigate the area and ask for any info that the night workers had. Finding criminals wasn't something that happened right away as even they were smart enough to know that they should lay low until things cleared out.

If there was one thing that both girls hated about this case then it was the fact that it was going on so late at night. It was already 1:35 A.M. and they just wanted to go to sleep but couldn't because the boys had their own investigation to do. Dora took a sip of her coffee every chance she got as long drives from home to the city were the most boring parts about these type of cases. She knew the moment she got out the truck that she would be her usual self but until then, she had to endure this long and boring drive.

To pass the time, she decided to talk with her partner about random things to keep herself up. "So Giselle, what do you think will happen in this investigation? I just hope we find the guy right away so we *yawns*...can go home right away and sleep. These night shifts are killing me."

The Painted Horse chuckled a little at her friend's tired state as she felt the same way as well. "Now don't you worry one bit Dora. This crook might think he can escape us by leaving our area but little does he know that we got papers saying we can investigate the city area as well. Just know that the look on his face when he sees us is all we'll need to see in order to get energized again. I can see it now, OH NO! HOW DID YOU GIRLS TRACK ME HERE?! MY ESCAPE PLAN SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED!!! And then we show him this little map he left of the city showing where he would hide in case he had to disappear for a while. Even if we don't catch him now, we know which hotel he'll be staying in after a day or two."

A smirk was on Dora's face as Giselle was right. The crook royally screwed himself over when he panicked and took off in an attempt to escape from the girls. He didn't leave much behind but he could of made sure that he hid anything important so they couldn't trace him as easily. But hey, they weren't complaining. An easy job meant no one got hurt and that they didn't need to stress over where the guy could possibly be. In theory, everything should be a piece of cake.

"Yeah, he really messed up leaving his map behind but we can thank him personally for doing that for us. He's so kind to leave us such an obvious clue. But it has been some time since we last been to the city for a crime someone committed."

"It sure has. I remember your scrawny cheetah friend was trying to untie you from the car you were locked in and I suddenly snucked up behind him and had my shotgun aimed directly on his back. If he didn't convince me he was a friend of yours then he might of lost one of his nine lives. You think when felines come back on another life that they become a different person? Imagine if life number eight made him this macho and aggressive cheetah! Now that would be funny."

Giselle's joke managed to get some more laughs out of Dora as that did sound kinda funny. "So you're telling me that felines have nine different personalities per life? I would like to believe that there's no way that's true as that means Grisha wouldn't always be my big lovable Siberian Tiger. He'll come back even more lovable with every life." Thinking of her feline boyfriend brought a warm feeling in her heart as she couldn't help but smile thinking about him.

Gieslle took notice of this and decided to tease her German Shepherd partner. "I could see Grisha coming back as a chatty and cocky boy just like your brother. Constantly showing the ladies his muscles and giving showing them how to work an axe." Dora quickly turned her head over to the laughing horse as now her romantic dream of Grisha was now ruined.

"Grisha turning into Kurfust would be a living nightmare! Now I definitely can't go to sleep knowing I would risk dreaming about Kurfust Starks or Grisha Klendathu. Such horrible things should never be mentioned!"

"Just doing my job Dora. Can't have you sleeping on the job now can I? But I'm a big and strong girl. I can handle myself just fine. The same can't be said with you and your tiny guns Dora. If you were crowded and need to take down all the crooks immediately you would be to busy putting multiple bullets into one guy. Meanwhile me and my shotgun just need one good meaty hit and then on to the next one."

Dora rolled her eyes hearing that as she couldn't believe they were discussing this again. "Yeah right. You take one shot and then have to wait as your gun's fire rate is sub par compared to smaller fire arms. Not to mention the reload time on your gun as well would leave you open once you're out of bullets. A quick reload speed is important when it comes to close range and a while shotguns are very powerful close range, someone could easily count your shots and rush you down right after all your shots are wasted."

"You make it sound like I don't know how to work a gun. I would never foolishly waste ammo like that. And if someone does try to rush me when I'm reloading then I'll just swat them down using my gun as a flyswatter. Works just as well and is something your small guns can't do. Face it Dora, your smaller guns can't compete with these bigger and better guns."

Somehow, Dora always found herself in these weird discussions with Giselle. It wasn't something they took seriously with one another as they both knew and respected each other's reasons but it was always a good way to pass time as neither one was willingly to admit that their gun of choice was worse than the other.

After a long drive from the Rural Police Station, Dora and Giselle had finally arrived to their destination. Neither one of them seemed tired at all and were both ready to do their job. Now all they needed to do was go and check in to let the owner of the local mall know that they were here. Last thing they wanted was to be accused of sneaking around without any permission.

The girls arrival didn't go unnoticed as one of the guards had seen them on the security camera and alerted the boss that the officers had arrived. This eased his stress a little as he was happy to hear that something was going right for the night. But just to be professional, he sent a message to all the night guards telling them to be on their best behavior as he wanted the officers to feel welcomed here.

Walking through the mall at night was very different. Sometimes music could be heard during the day to keep every happy and motivated to shop but here nothing was heard. The mall was completely silent and every step they took echoed throughout the mall. For such a lively place during the day the mall seemed like a graveyard during the night.

This didn't bother the girls as this wasn't there first time working together this late at night. As long as they stood together they didn't have anything to worry about. Giselle and Dora saw each other as trustworthy partners so if anything did happen then they knew they could trust each other to save the other's life. But neither girl planned for anything like that to happen as the crook was likely alone and not as dangerous as the media made him out to be. He seemed like a very cowardly person who never tried any form of aggression and only ran when things got tough. The hard part of tonight was likely going to be how to catch the guy.

A few more minutes of walking led the girls to the office of the mall's owner. He was a small Arctic Fox who likely lived in the northern parts of the city where everywhere was cold. From his looks alone they could tell he wasn't feeling well but it was their job to make sure he stayed safe and nothing happened to him or anyone here. He also probably wasn't very use to staying up this late so he was also probably very tired.

"Officer Klendathu here. We were told that sightings of a criminal were found here and were ordered to do some investigating. With your permission can me and Officer Moreyra go and check out any suspicious areas? We would also like the question your workers just in case anything in particular stood out to them."

The Arctic Fox looked up at them and sighed a little as he couldn't believe that something so small had led to all of this. "Go and do as you please. If you need help accessing certain rooms then ask the nearest guard for a key. I can appoint you a guard to help navigate you throughout the mall. Would that be needed?"

Both girls looked at each other and nodded their head as someone who would know the area would probably be best for helping them look around. "Sr. that would be very appreciated. Just where should we go to meet up with them?" Dora questioned.

"Don't worry, I'll tell him to come here now." The white fox picked up a walkie-talkie as he then proceeded to start talking. "Mr. Silver, come to my office immediately. You are needed at once." He then placed the walkie-talkie down as he looked up at the girls. "He should be here in a few minutes. Anything else you girls need?"

"How about info? If Dora and I are to work with someone then I can say for the two of us that getting to know what they're like would benefit us greatly. You know, so we can see what he can and can't help us with."

The fox placed his hand on his head and started to scratch as he was wondering just what should be said. "Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there isn't an awful lot that could be said about him. But I can say what I do know about him. His name is Lynel Silvers. An Easter Timber Wolf that's approximately 1.87 meters tall. He's in his early 20's, about 22 if I'm right? He's a lone wolf so don't really expect for him to say to much unless he really needs to say a lot. Isn't much of a flirt either so I don't think you two will have to worry about being flirted with at all. From what I heard of him he usually gets the job done whenever he's needed. He doesn't exactly work for me but you can ask anyone that had him as a guard and they will tell you he takes his job very seriously."

From what they were told Dora was able to make out sorta just what this Lynel guy would be like. A big stone wall was what Dora thought of as he didn't exactly sound like the funnest guy in the world. But maybe that was how he was during work? Maybe he was a completely different canine if she ever met him off of work.

Speaking of him, a knock came from the door before being told it was opened. Coming from the other side of the door was the robust canine himself, Lynel. He didn't say anything at all and only looked in the direction that everyone was standing in. Not even a smile was on his face as it looked as if he wasn't happy at all.

"Ah, Lynel, nice to see you made it here on time. These two are officers Klendathu and Moreyra. You'll be guidance throughout this mall and assist them with whatever they need. You are to take care of them and treat them as if they were your bosses. Understood?" Only a nod came from the dark wolf as he didn't seem to mind working under someone else for the time being. "Good. Now I trust you girls will treat him as one of your own as well. I best not keep you three here for to long. You came here to investigate and I won't stop you girls. Take care and I hope for everyone's safety that nothing happens to anyone."

"Yes Sr.!" Both girls said firmly as they turned around and walked themselves out. Lynel followed behind both girls as he was curious as to what he would be needed for.

Wanting to understand even more as to who this Lynel guy was, Dora decided to talk with him a little to try and break any barriers they had with him. "Hello there Lynel. My name is Dora Klendathu and this is my partner Giselle Moreyra. We're officers from the rural area so you can assume that we kinda drove for a very long time to get here. So, is there anything you would like to tell us or know about us before we really get started?" A smile was on Dora's face as she wanted the wolf to feel very comfortable around her to make things easier for all three of them but to her surprise, he simply just shook his head no. The Arctic wolf wasn't lying when he said Lynel was a lone wolf because he seemed as if he didn't want to be bothered by anyone.

Giselle walked over to Timber Wolf and place her arms around him as she wanted to try and show the canine some hospitality. "No need to keep that tough guy act up around us. I can promise you that we are very accepting officers and have experienced all types of friends. So if you wanna tell us something then don't be afraid to say so." Again, nothing was said from the wolf as he seemed contempt with not saying a word.

Right away Lynel was able to see what the two girls were trying to do. Both of them wanted to get on his friendly side to make things easier for all three of them. They wanted his trust in exchange for them having faith and trust in him. Honestly, they seemed like very nice girls who just wanted to do their job but also have a little fun while doing it. In a way they reminded him of one of his other female friends who loved doing her work as long as she could do things her own way and make it fun. She could of did her job just like anyone else but why do it the normal way when she could make it fun?

Thinking of what to expect out of the girls, Lynel started to form opinions on what he thought each girl was like. Giselle sounded like a girl from the country side of Griffon City and her accent definitely made him believe that she was. She was big and presumably strong as well as her body looked very solid. Her overall nice behavior and welcoming personality easily had him believe that she was a sweet and kind girl who looked out for those she liked. When it came to Dora things were slightly different. The German Shepherd was a lot smaller and frailer looking than her partner was which automatically made the wolf curious. She was also quite attractive for an officer as well as her curves were definitely something he took an interest into. But just like Giselle, she came off as someone who was generally friendly and wanted to make the best with the time they did have. She didn't sound like see had a country accent like her friend so maybe she was born and raised somewhere differently from her partner?

"I think we should give him some time so he can warm up to us Giselle. Maybe he just wants to see if he can trust us before opening up to us. Besides, this is his job so maybe he just thinks we'll never meet again so what's the point of getting to know us?"

"Hm, when you put it that way it does make sense. But I'm sure Lynel would love to get to know this cute big nosed officer. Ain't that right Dora?"  Giselle said poking her friend's nose.

"Hey! My nose isn't THAT big! Is it Lynel?" Dora turned her head to look at the canine as she pinched her on nose as she looked at the wolf. Lynel was silent at first as he starred at the German Shepherd but then suddenly his mouth opened up and he said something.

"It is."

Dora smiled hearing Lynel finally speak as she jumped up and hugged the wolf. "You can talk! See, that wasn't so hard was it?" Lynel had a questionable look on his face as he was wondering what was so special about what just happened but he was glad to have Dora hug him. Although, he didn't show any change in expression to show this.

"Now look at that Dora, Mr. Quiet on the western front isn't such a mute after all. But hopefully we can get some more words out of him. Like have you seen any suspicious activity going on around here or anyone acting strange?"

Lynel only shook his head as nothing out of the ordinary had been going on. Only thing he could think of was how chatty everyone was lately as discussing where the crook could be was probably fun but he knew nothing of that feeling.

"And once again he's back to being a mute. We got ways to go before he starts to speak with us. Come on Dora, lets keep searching around. Lynel, stay close with us. Wouldn't want you to get separated now would we?" Giselle led the way as Lynel and Dora followed behind.

Most of their time walking around was spent in silence. Lynel never really bothered to open his mouth and Dora and Giselle were busy trying to focus on where the guy could possibly be hiding at. Being canines, Lynel and Dora were listening very carefully for any sudden movement in case they were attacked from anywhere but none of that ever happened. It could be possible that if he was hiding that maybe he went to sleep so that way he couldn't make any noises. But what if he was a snorer? Or what if he was to afraid of being caught that he didn't want to sleep? These were also reasonable things that probably kept him moving and them searching for him.

On their travels throughout the mall they ran into a few of the guards in which the two female officers started to question if anything unusual happened. The answers they received were about the same mainly. "I seen nothing suspicious." "Everything has been fine here." "I heard rumors of him being in the all but that's about it."

With answers like those, things were looking a bit out of hands but not once did any of them feel like giving up. Sooner or later they would find where he's hiding at and when they do they could finally go home to rest, except Lynel. Speaking of Lynel, Dora wanted to try another attempt to get the wolf to speak more. It was the least she could do to help pass the time a little.

"So Lynel, you're a native to this city? Your colors are sorta similar to mine so maybe you're an immigrant like I am." She turned her head to look up at the wolf as he looked down at her with the same serious face as always.

"I'm a native." His head went back up immediately after answering the question.

"What about family? Any brothers, sisters, step parents or anything like that?"

"Parents, yes. Siblings, no." He continued his walk behind the officers as he was talking to Dora as if she was a complete stranger, which she was.

Dora crossed her arms as she was wondering just what she could tell him to have him open up for her. Surely there was a wolf deep down inside of him that just wanted to say what was on his mind. Giselle noticed the look on Dora's face and could tell she really wanted to have Lynel open up as she believed he could. Knowing this, she simply smiled and listened as Dora tried to conversate with the larger canine.

"Alright, how about this. What exactly makes you so quiet? Were you always like this or was there a time where you spoke a lot more? I know you probably don't wanna answer all of these questions but I just can't help but wonder why." A certain look was on Dora's face and it seemed to be a very determined look as well. Lynel couldn't bring himself to not answer this question as Dora seemed to really want to know why he acted the way he did. Not only that, but no one really did bother to ask him why he was normally a mute. They just accepted that he was quiet for who knows why.

Taking a deep breath, Lynel placed his arm on Dora's shoulder as he looked her face to face as they continued to walk forward. "I wasn't always like this. But I rather keep a long story short and get straight to the point. From what I saw growing up, people often got hurt because they didn't know how to keep quiet. It was always the chatty ones who knew what was going on and that was friends with everyone as well so if anyone ever came looking for answers those were usually the first to get questioned. Not all these people who did the questioning were very nice so you can bet that I saw a lot civilians get hurt. I didn't want anything to do with such horrible people so I decided to keep quiet. No offense to you or your partner but I prefer to keep quiet on most occasions. If we ever get the chance to meet again, then maybe you could see a different me."

Both Dora and Giselle were shocked at what Lynel said. They expected at some point if he did say a lot that it would just be slightly more but this was so much more than what they anticipated! Being a data collector on personal info, Dora knew this would be valuable info if she did ever meet Lynel again. If that was the case then she would have some more researching to do on the silent wolf.

"Wow Lynel, so you grew up with a lot of violence in your childhood didn't you? Being young, you must of not wanted to deal with any of those things. But things are different now. You're a lot bigger and stronger than what you use to be. And to top it off, surely the crime has died down hasn't it?" Dora had a concerned look in her eyes as she was ready to help if she needed to step in.

"Things are better. And I like being silent." I seemed Lynel was back to his old ways already as he only answer what was asked and nothing else.

Dora was a bit upset to hear that Lynel didn't want to open up. He seemed like he just wanted to live a simple and happy life but due to the violence he encountered in his youth he already had his mind set out on how he would handle everything. Surely something could of been done to show him that he could still be a mute but try and have fun at the same time.

Before she could question anything else, a sudden crunching and cracking sound could be heard in the distance. Being canines, both Lynel and Dora heard the noise crystal clearly as they looked at each other and nodded their heads.

Confused by the noise, Giselle asked quietly what was going on. "Uh, Dora, was that noise my imagination or are we about to bag us a crook?" Giselle got her shotgun out as she was ready to blast herself anything that came her way.

"Lynel and I are pretty sure someone is snooping around near those garbage cans. It's not much to go off of but judging by Lynel's more serious look it's definitely not a guard lurking around here. We approach with cation. No need to make an unnecessary risks." Dora pulled out her tazer as she slowly started to walk in the direction the sound had came from. Lynel and Giselle kept close to Dora as they were her extra set of eyes in case something randomly jumped out at her.

Together, they moved around slowly and quietly as they didn't want to give away their position. If someone was hiding from them then they wouldn't want to give them a chance to figure out where they were at to make a hasty retreat. But something smelled fishy, literally. This part of the mall reeked of a horrible smell honestly they just wanted to throw up.

But that was just it, why did the area smell so bad? Up ahead they saw some garbage cans placed right next to each other and t=with them being so close next to each the smells must of mixed together to make an even worst smell.

To Lynel, this smell was unusual. Being a guard he walked throughout the mall on several occasions to do specific things and never has he smelled this horrible stench before. Not to mention the crunching and cracking sound could of been from someone moving through the garbage cans.

Tapping Dora on the shoulder, he lowered his head and started to whisper something into her ear. "I think someone is hiding in one of those garbage cans."

Dora looked at him with a shocked face as the thought of someone hiding in there was repulsive. "That's disgusting. But why would you think that?"

"Anything that smells bad is limited to the area that it is contained to. The only way the stench could of possibly have gotten this badly is if someone opened the lids. If the trash was taken out, then the smell would have died down by now but that's not the case. It's possible that this crook choose a garbage can to hide in as it's a spot we never would normally look in. Not to mention he probably searched from trash can to trash can for the least dirty one."

Lynel was right, to hide in something as putrid as a dirty garbage can was something most crooks wouldn't do. Just the smell alone would drive them away but it seems not this time. If that was the case then they would have to check each trash can until someone popped out. "So you want us to remove each lid?"

"No, I'll do it. Just provide me with cover." Lynel proceeded to walk over to the smelly cans as Dora and Giselle slowly followed behind while providing cover. Instead of open and checking under every lid, Lynel simply pushed each garbage can to get a feel of which one seemed to heavy to be trash.

For a moment, everything seemed fine. Nothing was unusual and every can seemed to have trash in it. But then, Lynel felt that one of the garbage cans were a bit to heavy and needed to be checked. If the crook wasn't here then the wolf would be making a loud ruckus for no reason while also alarming him of where they were currently yet. This could possibly be a full garbage can but to Lynel he was confident it wasn't. Swiftly and powerfully, Lynel kicked the trash can over which ended up knocking over and spilling everything that was inside of it out. But to there surprise, a body was in fact inside of the trash can. A med size raccoon was found with garbage all over him as he looked over to the two police officers and security guard eyeing him. He started to chuckle nervously as it looked like he had been caught.

"Hold it right! You're under arrest for robbery and breaking and entering! I don't wanna see you move a muscle!" Dora had a taser aimed at the raccoon as she couldn't believe that this was finally over.

"Sweet apple acres! This kid smells like fresh manure spilled all over a male's locker room! Can we get this kid behind bars before my nose falls off?!" Giselle couldn't help but laugh a little as she was trying to make the best out of a smelly situation. "This kid looks no older than 15. I'm sure his mother would love to hear what he was doing stealing from local stores and escaping into the city without an adult."

"I'm sure she would love to hear his reason. But for now, lets get him in some cuffs." Dora said as she pulled out a pair of handcuffs and placed them securely onto the raccoon's hands.

"Come on, can't we leave my mother out of this?" The raccoon argued as he knew he was gonna be in so much trouble.

"Nope! Just be lucky you weren't raised on a farm like I was. If we got caught stealing anything then it was back breaking labor for over a week! Now follow me kid. I got get you into the car so we can drop you off at the station. Finally, we can get us some rest. Dora, I'll see you at the truck when you're done. All I'll catch you later Lynel. Why not stop by the station over at the farmer's belt? We would love to have you over if you don't mind coming." Giselle started to walk off as she kept a close eye on the raccoon.

Once Giselle was gone, Dora patted Lynel on the back a few times as he looked over at her only to see a smile on her face. "You know, for quite a lone wolf you work well with others when you choose to. I shouldn't keep you to busy as you probably need to report back to your boss but I have to say I'm happy to have had the chance to work with you. Like Giselle said, if you ever want to stop by for a visit or just to talk with us you know where t find us. Although I will warn you that we're a bit laid back at the station so expect a crazier side of me there. Until next time, take care Lynel!" She gave the wolf one last hug before letting go and walking off.

A smile was on the Timber wolf's face as he waved goodbye to Dora. One day he would definitely try to take her and Giselle up on that offer, but for now, he had other things to intend to. Hopefully hearing that the crook was just a teenage raccoon would cause his boss to laugh and possibly cheer up a little. Everyone could use a laugh from time to time after all.
Told myself I would do something for Lynel and finally it's here after so long!
I just needed an idea which was harder to think of than I thought as I never really thought of any ideas for ages ^^;
A bit of a different approach on this story compared to others but I tried.
